Three masters of Renaissance period
Firenze

Cacciata_dal_paradiso_brancacci_content

The old city centre of Prato is well preserved and it shows an evolution of the architectural style from Middle Age till the XVII century. The Cathedral of Saint Stephen (Santo Stefano) is linked to an ancient local tradition celebrating the Virgin. The Cathedral also houses one of the most impressive cycles of frescoes made by Filippo Lippi which illustrate the story of the saint patron of the City. Only few people know that Filippo Lippi was born in Florence and became a monk in the Carmelite church, where he saw the great Masolino and Masaccio decorating the chapel of the Florentine merchant Felice Brancacci. After their work the history of art would never be the same. Visiting the Brancacci chapel we will understand the reason why.
