Prato, the unknown treasure of Middle Age and Renaissance
Prato

If you want to trace a different façade of Tuscany, Prato is the right place to visit.
The imposing Fortress, build by Frederick II Hohestaufen is the sole example of Svevian architecture in central Italy. A few steps further we will admire the real synthesis of Renaissance architecture the Church of Santa Maria delle Carceri (St. Mary of the Prisons) by Giuliano da Sangallo. From here, through the old medieval streets we will reach the Cathedral dedicated to Santo Stefano with an external pulpit by Michelozzo and Donatello. Inside the cathedral you will notice different cycles of frescoes illustrating the history of art from Middle Age till Renaissance: Agnolo Gaddi, Filippo Lippi and Paolo Uccello.
