Cosimo I: patron of the arts or absolute ruler
Firenze

Uffizi_content

The absolute ascent of the Medici family began with Cosimo I who moved out of the family residence into the Palazzo della Signoria, the seat of Government. Afterwards he decided to build the Uffizi, the magistrates’ offices in order to manage the rich Florentine merchants and to exert his control on their activity. However the Uffizi quickly became the place where Cosimo’s son Francesco installed his personal collection of antique sculptures, paintings and precious stones. Thanks to the members of the Medici dynasty the Uffizi Gallery was enlarged and many works of art were added. Nowadays the Uffizi is one of the most relevant painting gallery in Europe and it houses the famous works of Giotto, Botticelli and many others.
This kind of visit is recommended to art lovers.
